The founder and president of Potts & Pans, Matt Potts is the reason for the name (nope, nothing to do with cooking). Getting his start in music on the piano at age 4 and then “traditional” orchestral percussion at age 10. It wasn’t until he was 17 that he found out about the steelpan, bought on online, and started the addiction. After teaching himself how to play, Matt started to wonder if he could learn to build and tune pans. Throughout college, Matt studied the art of building and then taught himself to tune after spending six weeks in Trinidad studying with various builders/tuners. Matt now does all the tuning for Potts & Pans Steelband. He also tunes for customers around the midwest and is one of the tuners for Steel X Plosion based in Brooklyn, NY.
